Whether the Bharta is of potato or brinjal, it is scrumptious to eat. It is a curry of mashed veggies and today we are going to make a curry of mashed jackfruit which is healthier to eat. Jackfruit is enriched with protein and adding it to your main course is a perfect choice.

Here is step by step easy recipe with pictures to make Kathal Bharta (mashed curry). This recipe with the presentation of images will help you well to cook it perfectly.

Getting Ready :

Take a 1/2 kg of peeled jackfruit, apply some oil on your palms and chop it.

Boil it until the first whistle blows along with a 1/2 cup of water.

Take 3 tomatoes and chop them finely.

After the first whistle, turn the flame to low and cook for 4 to 5 minutes.

Preheat 3 to 4 tablespoons of oil in a wok, add a ½ tsp of cumin seeds to it on low flame.

Add a pinch of asafoetida, 3 to 4 finely chopped green coriander, a ½ tsp of turmeric powder, a tbsp of dry fenugreek leaves after crushing to it.

Add a tsp of coriander powder, a tsp of Degi Mirch to it and roast it.

Open lid of the cooker and the boiled jackfruit to the Masala mixture.

Add more than a tsp of salt, a ½ tsp of Garam Masala, a ¼ tsp of mango powder to it.

Cover and cook on low flame for 5 minutes. Stir it and again, cook while covering it.

The Bharta has cooked after 5 minutes, add some coriander leaves and stir well.

The jackfruit Bharta is ready to be served, garnish it with finely chopped green coriander.

Suggestions

  • You can use any variety of cooking oil instead of mustard oil.
  • You can add onion after chopping and roasting it as per your taste.
  • You can use the ginger paste instead of grated ginger.

Ingredients
  • Jackfruit - 500 grams
  • Tomatoes - 3 (200 grams)
  • Mustard oil - 3 to 4 tbsp
  • Green coriander (finely chopped) - 3 to 4
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 inch
  • Green chilli (finely chopped) - 3 to 4
  • Cumin seeds - ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  • Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala - ½ tsp
  • Dry fenugreek - 1 tbsp
  • Salt - more than 1 tsp
Instructions
  1. - Take ½ kg of peeled jackfruit, apply some oil to your palms and chop it.
  2. - Add it in a cooker to boil along with a ½ cup of water. Boil until a whistle blows.
  3. - Take 3 medium sized tomatoes and finely chop them.
  4. - After the first whistle, turn the flame to low and cook for 4 to 5 minutes.
  5. - Add 3 to 4 tablespoons of oil in a wok and heat it.
  6. - After heating the oil, add a ½ teaspoon of cumin seeds to it on low flame.
  7. - Add a pinch of asafoetida and roast until brown.
  8. - Add 3 to 4 finely chopped green coriander to it and saute the spices.
  9. - Add a ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, a tablespoon of dry fenugreek leaves after crushing to it.
  10. - Add a teaspoon of coriander powder, a teaspoon of Degi Mirch to it and roast it.
  11. - Add more than a teaspoon of salt to it.
  12. - Open lid of the cooker and the boiled jackfruit to the Masala mixture.
  13. - Add a ½ teaspoon of Garam Masala, a ¼ teaspoon of mango powder to it.
  14. - Cover and cook on low flame for 5 minutes. Stir it and again, cook while covering it.
  15. - The Bharta has cooked after 5 minutes, add some coriander leaves and stir well.
  16. - The jackfruit Bharta is ready to be served, garnish it with finely chopped green coriander.
  17. Serving
  18. - Serve it along with Chappati, Paratha and rice.
