Steamed masala bun is prepared by steaming the wheat flour buns stuffed with spicy and tangy paneer filling. It tastes super delicious. Generally we prepare buns by baking it but this time I have posted this delicious and less-oil recipe of steamed masala buns. This recipe is especially for the peoples who don’t have ovens or microwaves and complains about how can they make homemade buns without them.

Steamed masala buns taste super scrumptious same as the baked buns. You can make its filling according to your taste or availability. Getting ready:

Take the paneer and crumble it with hand. Place it into a bowl and use it later.

Take a big vessel and pour 3-4 cups of water into it. Cover the vessel and let it simmer. Grease a steel colander as well.

Take wheat flour in a big mixing bowl and add sugar, instant active dry yeast, salt and 1 tbsp of oil. Mix all the ingredients really well. Now add lukewarm water in small portions and knead soft and smooth dough as required for making chapatti. Apply some oil on the dough then cover and keep it aside in warm place for 2-3 hours to set.

Meanwhile, prepare the stuffing. For this, place a pan on flame. Once it gets heated, pour the oil into it. Now add chopped carrot, green peas, chopped capsicum, ginger paste, green chilly, salt and coriander powder. Mix all the ingredients really well. Cover the pan and cook the veggies for 2 minutes. Check later.

After 2 minutes, take the lid off. Veggies have turned slightly tender. Now add crumbled paneer, red chilly powder, garam masala and dry mango powder into the veggies. Keep stirring continuously for a minute so that everything mixes well.

Once everything is mixed well, turn off the flame. Add chopped green coriander into it. Transfer it to a bowl so that it cools down quickly.

Dough has puffed up as well. Slightly knead the dough again. Make small balls from the dough as required for making chapatti. Lift a ball and make it smooth. Give it a bowl shape by pressing it with fingers.

After that, put 2 tsp of stuffing on the dough. Press the stuffing with the back of a spoon. Lift the edges of the dough and close the stuffing nicely. Shape it as a bun and place it on a plate. Similarly, prepare the rest of the buns until the dough is utilized completely.

Once the water in the vessel starts boiling, place the greased steel colander on the vessel. Put the prepared buns on the colander, maintaining some space between each buns. Put the lid on. Let the buns steam for 15-20 minutes.

After 20 minutes, take the lid off. Steamed masala buns are now steamed aptly. Turn off the flame. Transfer the buns on a plate. Similarly, steam the rest of the buns.

Suggestions

  • If you are using dry yeast then you have to activate it. For that, take yeast and add 2-3 tbsp lukewarm water to it followed by sugar. Cover and keep it aside for 10 minutes to activate. After that, use it.
  • Here we have used green peas, capsicum and carrot but you can use any veggie of your choice such as cauliflower, cabbage, boiled soya bean granules, cheese etc.

  • Carrot – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Capsicum – 1 (finely chopped)
  • Green peas - ½ cup
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Ginger paste - ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Dry mango powder - ¼ tsp
  • Salt - ½ tsp or to taste
  • Garam masala - ¼ tsp
  • Red chilly powder - ¼ tsp
  • Green chilly – 1 (finely chopped)
Instructions
