    Milk Powder Gulab Jamun Recipe – Gulab Jamun Using Milk Powder

    Milk powder gulab jamun is a sumptuous variation to traditional mawa gulab jamuns. We have already shared the recipe for making gulab jamuns using bread and kala jamuns with you all. But today we have another unique and easy recipe of making gulab jamuns with milk powder mawa for you all.

    Gulab Jamun is one of the most loved and popular Indian sweet dishes. Usually Gulab jamun are prepared with mawa but at some places mawa is not easily available or at times we don’t trust the mawa available in markets, so in that case we can use milk powder for making the mawa. Milk powder mawa gulab jamun come out as delicious as the regular ones. Gulab jamun prepared with milk powder are as soft, tender and delicious. So, here sharing this easy to follow step-by-step instructions. Enjoy!

    Directions

    Getting ready:

    1. Finely chop the cashews and pistachios.

    2. Peel and ground the green cardamoms to make powder.

    3. For sugar syrup, in a vessel, add sugar and 2 cups of water and let it simmer till the sugar dissolves completely. Check if the syrup has turned gooey and sticky in consistency.

    4.Turn off the flame and mix some cardamom powder to it. Sugar syrup is ready.

    5. For mawa, in a another pan melt some unsalted butter and then add some milk to it. Keep the flame low and mix them well.

    6. Add milk powder and keep stirring continuously until you get smooth mixture. Cook until it gets thick and smooth in texture like a mawa.

    7. Turn off the flame. Mawa is now ready. Transfer it to a separate bowl.

    8. For stuffing, take 1 tsp of mawa, chopped dry fruits, half amount of green cardamom powder and 1-2 tsp of milk in a bowl. Mix everything well. Stuffing for the gulab jamuns is now ready.

    9. Take the prepared mawa in a plate and add 4 tsp refined flour into it.

    10. Knead and mash until it gets smooth and soft. If required, add 2 tsp of milk and knead the dough. It can take 6-7 minutes to make the mawa soft.

    11. Heat enough ghee or oil in a wok or pan. Make small lumps from the mixture and roll into round shape.

    12. Drop this ball to the ghee and fry until golden brown. Pour the ghee over the jamun with a ladle. In case the ball splatters while frying, then add 2 to 3 tsp more refined flour to the mawa and knead again till smooth.

    13. well and roll back into a smooth ball. Prepare the rest, similarly.

    14. Drop 3-4 gulab jamuns in hot ghee and fry till they get golden brown. Don’t directly touch the jamuns with ladle, instead pour the ghee over them.

    15. Drain out the fried jamuns on a plate with paper kitchen towels to remove excess oil.

    16. After 1-2 minutes, soak the fried jamuns in sugar syrup. Drench them for 5-6 hours in syrup. They will get sweeter. Milk powder gulab jamuns are ready.

    Suggestions

    • Don’t add too much refined flour in milk powder mawa, as doing so can make gulab jamun hard.
    • If the gulab jamun are getting hard, add 1-2 tsp milk into the dough.
    • Make sure while frying gulab jamun, oil is medium hot. Don’t directly touch the jamuns with ladle, instead pour oil over them with help of ladle.
    • Sugar syrup should be apt for gulab jamun else gulab jamun will not get sweeter.
