I quite often make matar paneer at my home and making it is really simple and easy.

    Directions

    Getting ready:

    1.Peel green peas and keep it aside in a bowl. Cut paneer into 1 inch cubes and keep them separately in another bowl.

    2.Grind tomatoes and green chilies into smooth paste.

    3.Heat up a pan with 2 tsp of oil. Toss paneer in the oil till it becomes brown from all the sides. Take them out in a plate.

    4.Now toss peas in the same pan. Cover the pan and let it cook for 2 minutes on low flame. After 2 minutes, peas will become tender. Take them out in another plate.

    5.Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a wok. Splutter cumin seeds then add asafoetida, coriander powder, turmeric powder and ginger paste. Saute the spices for a while.

    6.Add tomatoes and green chilly paste along with red chilly powder. Saute the masala until oil starts leaving its edges.

    7.Add cream to the masala and stir continuously until the gravy starts boiling. Add 1 cup of water and keep stirring until it starts boiling again. Then add garam masala, salt and chopped green coriander to it.

    8.Further add tossed paneer and green peas to the gravy. Mix everything really well. Then cover the wok and let it cook for 4-5 minutes on low flame. Delectable dhaba style matar paneer is ready to serve.

    9. Serve this mouth-watering matar paneer in a bowl garnished with coriander sprigs with chapatti, parantha and naan.

    • After adding cream to the masala, keep stirring it continuously else cream will cuddle.
    • You can use dry fruits or mawa or only tomato for the gravy. Matar paneer gravy can also be prepared with little chickpea flour or tomato and onion to make the gravy as per your taste
