Tamatar Chaat or Tomato chaat is a popular street food of Banaras prepared with tomatoes and boiled potatoes. It has a sweet and sour taste that will amaze you. This unique chaat recipe requires general ingredients and is prepared without onion and garlic.
Follow the directions below along with the images and prepare mouth-watering Tomato chaat.
Directions:
1. Add 2 tbsp of sugar and 1/2 cup of water to a cooking vessel and simmer till the sugar dissolves completely.
2. Add 1/4 tsp of roasted cumin powder, 1/4 tsp of black salt, and cook the syrup for a minute or two.
3. Take 4-tomatoes and chop them.
4. Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in the pan.
5. Add 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds, 1 inch finely chopped ginger, 2-finely chopped chilies, and roast briefly.
6. Add chopped tomatoes, 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of coriander powder, and 1 tsp of red chili powder.
7. Mix 1/2 tsp of salt in the tomatoes and cook covered for 3-4 minutes over low-medium heat.
8. Mash the tomatoes (after 3 minutes), add 1/2 cup of water, and cook for a few minutes.
9. Crumble 3-boiled potatoes and add them to the tomatoes.
10. Mix 1/2 tsp of black salt, 1/2 tsp of dry mango powder, 1/4 tsp of garam masala in the mixture.
11. Mix 1/2 tsp of roasted cumin powder, 1 tsp of chaat masala, 1-2 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves, and 1/2 lemon juice in the chaat.
12. Take aloo-tamatar sabzi out in a bowl and add other ingredients to serve.
13. Add desi ghee, 2-3 spoons of sugar syrup, chaat masala, cumin powder, namakpare (sev or namkeen), and coriander leaves to the sabzi.
14. Tomato Chaat is ready to be served.

- Desi Ghee - 1 tbsp
- Cumin Seeds- ½ tsp
