गुजराती हांडवो – 2 तरह से, पैन में भी व ओवन में भी । Traditional Handvo Recipe | Spicy Lentil Cake

 

Handvo is a rice and lentil-based savory cake that you can prepare in two ways. You can prepare handvo in the pan as well as bake it in the oven. Handvo is a traditional Gujarati recipe that is perfect for breakfast. Serve it with chutney or sauce, everybody will love it.

Follow the directions below along with the images to prepare delicious Gujarati breakfast ‘Handvo.’

Directions:

1. Blend ½ cup of soaked rice, 4 tbsp of chana dal, 4 tbsp of Dhuli moong dal, and 4 tbsp of urad dal coarsely in a mixer blender.

2. Take the mixture out in a bowl and add vegetables.

3. Add 1 cup grated Lauki, ½ cup grated carrot, 1-inch grated ginger, and 2-3 chopped chilies to the mixture.

4. Now, add 1 tsp of red chili powder, ½ tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of salt, ½ cup curd, ½ lemon juice, 1-2 tbsp of green coriander, and mix well.

5. Divide the batter equally into 2-bowls. Heat 4 tbsp of oil in the pan.

6. Add 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 1 tsp of cumin seeds, and 15-20 curry leaves to the oil.

7. Add 2 tsp of Tadka to both the batter and mix well.

Handvo in Pan:

8. Mix ½ tsp of Eno fruit salt in the batter.

9. Heat a non-stick pan and spread 2-3 tsp of tadka in it.

10. Spread a ladleful batter in the pan and cook cover for 12 minutes over low-medium flame.

11. Flip the handvo and cook covered for another 10 minutes over low-medium flame.

12. Transfer the Handvo to the serving tray and enjoy.

Handvo in Oven:

13. Add ½ tsp of Eno fruit salt to the batter and mix well.

14. Grease a bowl with 2-3 tsp of tadka and pour the batter into it.

15. Add remaining tadka and sprinkle ½ tsp of sesame seeds over the batter.

16. Bake Handvo at 200° centigrade for 30 minutes.

17. Scrape out the Handvo from the bowl.

18. Handvo from both the methods is ready to be served.

  • Rice - ½ Cup (100 grams)
  • Split Chickpeas (Chana Dal) - 4 tbsp (50 grams)
  • Split Yellow Lentils (Moong Dal) - 4 tbsp (50 grams)
  • Split Black Gram Lentils (Urad Dal) - 4 tbsp (50 grams)
  • Bottle Gourd (Lauki) - 1 Cup, grated
  • Ginger - 1-inch baton, grated
  • Carrot - ½ Cup, grated
  • Green Chilli - 2-3, finely chopped
  • Salt - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder - ½ tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder - 1 tsp
  • Curd - ½ Cup
  • Lemon Juice - ½ lemon
  • Eno Fruit Salt - 1 tsp
  • Sesame Seeds - ½ tsp
  • Green Coriander - 1-2 tbsp
Instructions
