कर्नाटका स्पेशल बिसी बेले भात । Bisi Bele Bath- Rice, lentils, mix veggies with Special Spice Powder
Bisi Bele Bhath is a delicacy from Karnataka. It is a rice and vegetable-based recipe, which requires general ingredients that are available in every Indian kitchen. Follow the steps below along with the images to prepare bisi bele bhath. Let’s get started!
Directions:
1. Put 1/2 cup of soaked rice & 1/4 cup of soaked arhar dal in a pressure cooker.
2. Add 1/2 cup cauliflower, 8-10 beans, 1-carrot, 2-3 tbsp peas, 2.5 cups water, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tsp of ghee to the cooker.
3. Pressure cook the content for 2 minutes over low flame after a whistle.
4. Dry roast 1 tbsp of chana dal and 1 tbsp of urad dal over the low-medium flame till golden brown.
5. When the lentil’s color changes and they become fragrant, transfer them to a plate.
6. Roast 2-red chilies, 1 tbsp coriander seeds, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds,1/8 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1-pinch Hing, 1 tsp poppy seeds, and 1 tbsp dry coconut in 1/2 tsp of ghee.
7. Saute 1-inch cinnamon, 2-cardamom, 1-small nutmeg piece, 2-cloves, 4-5 black pepper, 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder together over the low-medium flame.
8. Transfer the masala to the roasted lentils once sauteed and allow it to cool.
9. Once the masala cools, add it to a mixer jar and blend into a fine powder.
10. Heat 2 tbsp of ghee/oil in a pan.
11. Add 7-chopped & whole cashews to the pan and roast till lightly golden.
12. Next, take the cashews out once golden brown.
13. Add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds to the pan.
14. Add 10-12 curry leaves, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1-chopped tomato, 1/2 cup of capsicum to the pan, and roast lightly.
15. Next, mix 1 tbsp of tamarind pulp, 1/2 cup of water, ground masala, and roasted cashews.
16. Cover and simmer masala for 2 minutes.
17. Add cooked rice to the masala and mix well.
18. Add 1/2 cup of water (if necessary) and 1/2 tsp of salt to the bhath.
19. Mix chopped coriander leaves, 1 tbsp of ghee to the bhath, and cook for 2 minutes over the low flame.
20. Garnish with cashews and green coriander. Bisi Bele Bhath is ready to be served.

- Coconut - 1 tbsp (Chopped)
