This authentic dhaba style matar paneer recipe is little spicy and lip smacking. The stir fried paneer chunks are simmered in tomato-cream gravy and cream is added to neutralize the spiciness of the dish. Usage of cream also adds richness to this sabzi and makes it creamy. Matar paneer is served in main course with rice or chappati. So, here’s the recipe for restaurant style matar paneer recipe for you all. This recipe of Dhaba style matar paneer will surely be a delight to your taste buds.

    Getting ready

    Peel green peas and keep it aside in a bowl. Cut paneer into 1 inch cubes and keep them separately in another bowl.

    Heat up a pan with 2 tsp of oil. Toss paneer in the oil till it becomes brown from all the sides. Take them out in a plate.

    matar paneerNow toss peas in the same pan. Cover the pan and let it cook for 2 minutes on low flame. After 2 minutes, peas will become tender. Take them out in another plate.

    matar paneerHeat 2 tbsp of oil in a wok. Splutter cumin seeds then add asafoetida, coriander powder, turmeric powder and ginger paste. Saute the spices for a while.

    matar paneerAdd tomatoes and green chilly paste along with red chilly powder. Saute the masala until oil starts leaving its edges.

    matar paneerAdd cream to the masala and stir continuously until the gravy starts boiling. Add 1 cup of water and keep stirring until it starts boiling again.  Then add garam masala, salt and chopped green coriander to it.

    Further add tossed paneer and green peas to the gravy. Mix everything really well. Then cover the wok and let it cook for 4-5 minutes on low flame. Delectable dhaba style matar paneer is ready to serve.

    • After adding cream to the masala, keep stirring it continuously else cream will cuddle.
    • You can use dry fruits or mawa or only tomato for the gravy. Matar paneer gravy can also be prepared with little chickpea flour or tomato and onion to make the gravy as per your taste.

    Ingredients
    • Green peas – 1 cup

    • Green coriander – 3 to 4 tbsp (finely chopped)
    • Ginger paste – 1 tsp
    • Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
    • Asafoetida – 1 pinch
    • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
    • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
    • Red chilly powder – ¼ tsp
    • Garam masala – ¼ tsp or as per taste
    • Salt - 1 tsp or to taste
