Getting ready:

Take ½ cup moong dal, rinsed it well and then soak in water for 2 hours. Drain out the extra water and soaked dal ready to use.

Finely chop the cashews and almonds. Likewise finely slice the pistachios too.

Take out the seeds from green cardamom and then ground them using an the mortar pestle a little coarsely to make the powder.

For making the halwa, let us start with soaked moong dal first. For this, place the dal in mixer jar and grind it little course without adding water. Don’t make the dal too fine in texture.

To roast the ground dal, take a non stick wok as it more convenient and easy. Also, the dal doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Now add some ghee to the wok and save little for later use.

Allow the ghee to melt and then add ground dal to it. Now stir and continue stirring until the dal doesn’t turn golden brown in color. Keep the flame medium. Stir the dal with bringing the ladle to the bottom of the wok to prevent it from sticking to the wok.

When the dal turns golden brown, fragrant and also ghee has started separating from it that means it roasted. Now add 1.5 cups of water to the dal and keep the flame to minimum.

Then add 250 grams of condensed milk. Let the halwa cook on low flame so that the dal puffs up really well. Stir the halwa at regular intervals and make sure you keep the flame low.

When the dal puffs up and turns fragrant, add chopped dry fruits and cardamom powder to the halwa. Stir to mix everything nicely. Keep few dry fruits for garnishing later.

Now the halwa has turned dense and thick in consistency, add some more ghee to it. Adding ghee in cooked halwa makes it more delicious and tastier. Halwa is now done and ready, transfer it to a plate and turn off the flame.

Ingredients
  • Moong dal – ½ cup (100 grams) (soaked)
  • Condensed milk – 1 cup (250 grams)
  • Ghee – ½ cup (100 grams)
  • Cashews nuts – 10 to 12
  • Almonds – 10 to 12
  • Pistachios – 1 tbsp
  • Green cardamom – 6 to 7
Instructions
  1. Rinse and soak the moong dal in water for 2 hours.
  2. Finely chop the cashews, almonds and pistachios. Stone grind the green cardamom seeds.
  3. For making the halwa, grind the soaked moong dal into little course paste without adding water.
  4. Heat a non-stick pan with some ghee to the wok and save little for later use. As the ghee melts, add ground dal to it. Now stir and continue stirring until the dal turns golden brown in color. Keep the flame medium.
