Amla candy or Indian gooseberry is probably the most healthiest candy. It is loaded with all the benefits of amlas. Amla is an amazing good source of vitamin C. Getting ready:

Wash gooseberries thoroughly with water. Take a vessel with enough water to immerse the gooseberries completely into it. Place it on flame. Cover and let the water simmer. Once it starts simmering, drop the gooseberries right into it. Cover the vessel and let the gooseberries cook for 2-3 minutes until it turns tender. After that, turn off the flame and leave it covered as it is for a while. Then drain out the excess water from it and allow it to cool down completely.

Lift a gooseberry and with the help of hand break it and discard its seed. Separate its edges and place them in a bowl. Similarly, prepare the rest of the gooseberries to make candies.

Add the sugar into the gooseberries. Cover the bowl and keep it aside as it is for 3 days so that the sugar melts completely and the gooseberry absorbs the sugar syrup nicely.

After 3 days, strain out the gooseberries through a sieve. Spread them on a plate or a polythene sheet. Place it under the sun for 2 days so that it gets dried completely. Don’t dry it too much or else it will turn hard.

Add powdered sugar in the dries gooseberries candy. Mix it really well. Transfer it to a bowl. Amla candy is now ready.

Consume 5-6 delicious and nutritious gooseberry candy as it is daily. Give it to your kids as well. Store them in an air-tight container. Enjoy!

Suggestions

  • If you want to have sweet and sour candy then add black salt, black pepper powder, mango powder and powdered sugar into it. Mix everything really well.
  • Concentrate the sugar syrup and make gooseberry honey of it. For this, place it on flame and let it simmer until it turns into honey texture. Store it in an air-tight container. Mix this honey in water and consume it daily. It is very beneficial for health. It tastes almost like amla murabba or amla chutney.
